    Award Wining Seafood Restaurant

    Welcome to The Fish Café, twice voted People’s Choice Best Seafood Restaurant in New South Wales in the Seafood Excellence Awards 2013-2014 and 2015-2016, winner Best Seafood Restaurant in Sydney in the prestigious Restaurant and Catering Association NSW Savour Awards for Excellence (2014), winner in Official Great Aussie Pie Competition 2015 and award winner of the Sydney Metropolitan Consumer Vote Award 2016 (review media articles here).

    Since our doors first opened in July 2010, we have offered our customers the freshest and highest quality seafood available, great value and outstanding, friendly service in a lovely relaxed indoor / outdoor plaza terrace setting.

    We personally select all of our seafood directly from the fish markets and local fishing fleets on a daily basis, to provide not only the freshest and best seafood from our local New South Wales waters, but also some of the best eating fish and shellfish from waters further afield.

    I started my career as a kitchen hand at Jonah’s under head chef, Richard Purdue. I followed Richard to Belinda Franks Catering. I later started as an apprentice chef with Neil Perry at Rockpool where I have never worked as hard, however there was not one day that I didn’t want to be there. Today I am privileged to be head chef of Fish Cafe Balgowlah. My philosophy: “When it comes to cooking seafood, I believe that simple is best”.

    Winning the Sydney Fish Market’s award for the Best Seafood Restaurant in NSW is an honour and reassurance that we are heading in the right direction, offering quality and service to our customers.  It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication which are paramount in running a successful business.

    Fish Cafe Balgowlah’s trademark is consistency. “We always use fresh produce sourced daily. Keeping up the quality and keeping it simple makes a difference”.

    • Seafood that is fresh from the ocean, wonderful staff and BYO wine. What more could you ask for? The ever entertaining Stu, the quietly efficient Neil and the lovely Lily will ensure your evening is relaxing and enjoyable. The seafood chowder and fish & chips with mushy peas are to die for.

    • I love this restaurant - from the moment you walk in you can feel the ambience - waiters are fantastic and you feel very welcomed - I love the food - the fish is cooked how you prefer it and its served with a fresh salad. I usually go for the Snapper and Prawn Pie which arrives steaming hot and so yummy - a very generous serving. The restaurant is always very busy so it's a good idea to book - plenty of parking below in the Stockland complex.

    • First time at Fish Cafe and definitely not the last! Our family group was celebrating a birthday, and we tried a variety of dishes. Scallops and Salt'n'Pepper Calamari entrees, and mains of Fish & Chips, Prawn and Snapper Pie, whole fish and the linguini ... all fabulous. And I loved the mushy peas with the Fish n Chips - that was different!

    • I recently celebrated my 40th birthday dinner here - my Mum had booked the restaurant and I was super keen. Well, it did not disappoint. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. From the moment we arrived, the super-energetic and friendly Neil looked after us. Entrees were divine (you must try the Salt & Pepper Calamari OR the seared scallops) but the dish of the moment was the Moreton Bay Bugs. OMG! Generous serving; delicious sauce and the side of jasmine rice compliments it perfectly. Seriously, I couldn't fault anything. The ambience; the staff and everything else was fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back and can't wait.

    • I love my seafood ...the fresher and simpler cooked the better, so it's all about the seafood (and a nice crisp wine). This place does it really well and it's easy to see why they have won the Seafood Excellence Awards twice. I have eaten there several times during visits to Sydney and never been disappointed.
